Complaints about Kent Police
Kent Police's Professional Standards Department (PSD) deals with complaints regarding:
- The conduct of Kent Police officers or staff
- Kent Police policy
- Acts or omissions
- Decisions made by Kent Police, or its officers and staff
To make a complaint about any of the above, you need to contact Kent Police in the first instance. They will then be in touch with you directly to resolve your complaint.
The OPCC is not the appropriate authority for these types of complaints.
Independent Office for Police Conduct
As the independent police complaints watchdog for England and Wales, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC):
- Oversees the police complaints system and sets and monitors the standards by which the police should handle complaints.
- Investigates the most serious matters, including allegations of serious corruption, and cases where someone has died or been seriously injured following contact with the police.
- Considers certain types of reviews from people who are dissatisfied with the way their complaint has been dealt with by a police force.
The IOPC publishes an Annual Statistics Report which provides an overview of the complaints logged by forces.
