Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) are made up of partner agencies including Police, Local Authorities, Probation, Fire Service and Health and are responsible for working together to reduce crime, disorder and anti social behaviour (ASB) in their area. CSPs cover district / borough council boundaries and Kent has 12, including Medway Unitary Authority. In addition, Kent County Council has a CSP which covers their boundaries.
The PCC can bring together community safety partners to ensure local priorities are joined up and can ask for a report from a local authority on an issue of concern. He also has the power to approve mergers of Community Safety Partnerships and can call the authorities together to discuss issues affecting a specific area. The Home Office has recently undertaken a review of CSPs and this includes improving accountability and joint working between CSPs and PCCs.
The PCC provides the Crime Reduction Grant to all CSPs in Kent & Medway to support the delivery of local projects that prevent or reduce, crime disorder and ASB in their area. The current total provided by the PCC is: £558,385 (2024-2025). The Office of the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner works with CSPs to oversee how the funding is used and ensure that priorities are joined up.
