According to national figures released by Drink Aware, 54 per cent of women aged between 18 and 24 have experienced unwelcome physical attention on a night out.

In response, in 2018/19 the PCC began funding Kent Union to collaborate with the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University and Kent Police, as well as local councils and businesses to deliver training and awareness of the issue across venues in Medway and Canterbury. The training helps empower license holders to tackle the culture of sexual harassment in the night-time economy.

In 2019/20, in recognition of the positive impact the project has been having in helping to protect vulnerable people, the PCC has awarded Kent Union a further £7,800.

Like all grant awards, this funding is reliant on the project abiding to the OPCC's grant conditions and is subject to satisfactory monitoring and outcomes.
